Join us as creativity and imagination come to life with more than 250,000 colorful LEGO® bricks. BricksALIVE features a collection of more than a dozen animal sculptures throughout the Aquarium’s second floor. These amazing and complex figures represent species that call South Carolina home.
Requiring five months of construction time, these incredible sculptures are designed and built by the Aquarium’s exhibits team and include a bald eagle, a sea turtle, a river otter and an 8-foot dolphin.
Expand Our Brick Coral Reef
Add your own personal touch to the South Carolina Aquarium’s brick coral reef by building your own underwater element or animal and donating at the Aquarium’s membership window. Near the first Tuesday of every month make a special trip back to see your piece on exhibit, or look for updates on the changing reef on the Aquarium’s social media channels.
- Please construct your LEGO reef donation to fit within a standard shoebox.
- Your donation will not be returned, please make sure you’re comfortable with donating the sculpture.
- We accept donations every day in the admissions area of the Aquarium. Please donate at the Aquarium’s membership window.
- The coral reef is updated monthly, near the first Tuesday of every month.
BricksALIVE aims to connect guests with animals and the ocean, ultimately inspiring guests to connect with and care for our environment. The experience is included with general admission to the Aquarium or an Aquarium membership.

Your Favorite Charleston Icon – in LEGO® Bricks!
Our exhibit designers are at it again – and this time, you decide what they’ll make! In an homage to the #1 city in the world*, the next addition to BricksALIVE will be a symbol of Charleston. It’s up to you to let us know which Charleston icon you want to see in LEGO® bricks:
- Giant Sweetgrass Basket
- Playtime at the Pineapple Fountain
- Holy City Landmarks Mural
The votes are in and you chose “Playtime at the Pineapple Fountain”! We will reveal this sculpture sponsored by South Carolina Federal Credit Union on Friday, November 25 at the Aquarium.
