Request Photos

The South Carolina Aquarium can provide images for news media articles or stories about the Aquarium. Images are provided in .jpg format suitable for the web, print, or broadcast. Images can be sent via DropBox, email, or on a USB drive.

If you would like to use an image from the Aquarium please email and provide the following information:

  • The name of your publication
  • The description of the images you would like to receive
  • The format (size/resolution)
  • Delivery method
  • Intended use of the photo

Filming and Photography


Media interested in shooting photos or video at the South Carolina Aquarium may contact the Aquarium’s Public Relations Department at News media interested in shooting on-site must attain clearance and arrange for a staff escort. Last minute breaking news requests may be accommodated. Restrictions are in place regarding time of day for shooting, lighting in certain exhibits, and crowd control.

The South Carolina Aquarium encourages students to plan a trip to the Aquarium to talk with exhibit guides and staff. However, due to the amount of time associated with escorting film crews and interviews, requests to help with school projects cannot be met. Students are encouraged to utilize the Aquarium’s website as a resource for projects. Photos and video can be provided upon request. To request photos or video please send an email to and include what type of file, what animal species, and how the media will be used. Photos and video may not be used for commercial purposes.

Taking Photos or Video for Commercial Purposes

The South Carolina Aquarium accommodates commercial filming and photography requests on a case-by-case basis. Taking photos or video inside the facility for commercial purposes, including stock images, commercial products, and other commercial endeavors is prohibited without prior authorization from the Public Relations department. Licensing Aquarium Photos and Video

The South Carolina Aquarium does not provide Aquarium-owned stock video or images. Photos and video provided by the Aquarium may be used only for editorial purposes.

Commercial Filming and Photography

Commercial Projects

The South Carolina Aquarium will review commercial filming requests on a case by case basis. Please submit your commercial filming or photography shoot request as soon as possible. Please allow a few days for the public relations and marketing teams to review the request. You may contact public relations with the request via email: Please include the following information:

  • Contact name/information
  • Project type and description
  • Production company
  • Date(s) requesting to shoot
  • Estimated length of shoot
  • Equipment to be used
  • Any other information
Fees for Commercial Shoots

The South Carolina Aquarium charges $3,000 for a four-hour rental Sunday-Thursday and $4,500 for a four-hour rental Friday-Saturday. Additional charges will apply for shoots lasting longer than four hours, overtime staffing and security, insurance, and any union contract stipulations.
