Three Sharks Join the Deepest Tank in North America

CHARLESTON, S.C. — May 23, 2014 — Today a team of more than 15 South Carolina Aquarium staff moved three large male nurse sharks into the Aquarium’s 385,000-gallon Great Ocean Tank. Two of the sharks are 7-feet long and weigh approximately 200 pounds, the third shark is nine-feet long and weighs approximately 250 pounds. They join 750 animals in the Great Ocean Tank, bringing the total number of sharks in that tank to 14. The animals were donated to the South Carolina Aquarium by the Oklahoma Aquarium.

Be sure to mark your calendar for the South Carolina Aquarium’s Shark Week celebration August 1-10, 2014. Dive into all things shark during this special 10-day celebration. Enjoy shark-themed dive shows, engage in fun interactive activities, play in a shark cage, take a picture in a megalodon’s massive jaw, and marvel at the sharks in the Great Ocean Tank. Shark Week activities are free with general admission. For more information, visit scaquarium.org or call (843) 577-FISH (3474).
