The South Carolina Aquarium made the difficult decision to close to the public through at April 30, 2020. As a science-based organization, we want to ensure that we are doing our part to help curb the transmission of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).  The health and safety of our guests, our team and our animals remains our top priority.

In keeping with our mission to connect people with water, wildlife and wild places, while we are closed we plan to provide daily online content and virtual visits. Below are ways that you can stay engaged with the Aquarium as well as general information and FAQs regarding the closure.

VIRTUAL VISITS

In keeping with our mission to connect people with water, wildlife and wild places, we’re excited to announce that we will be providing online programming including a twice-daily stream of fun and educational programming from our talented team at the Aquarium.

Join us for a virtual visit each weekday at 10 a.m. EST on Facebook and then at 1 p.m., keep an eye out for our Family Nature Challenges! And then, stay tuned in for new and additional offerings in the near future, including our virtual “Passport to Fun” and a much needed Moment of Zen. EMERGENCY RELIEF FUND

Taking care of our animals and staff has always been and will continue to be our top priority. Rest assured our animals will continue to be well-provided for by our expert Animal Care Team during our closure. If you would like to contribute to our Emergency Relief Fund to ensure our ongoing demands for food, medicine and other supplies are met, please visit scaquarium.org/relief. This fund will support our staff and ensure that we can stay connected and bring you high quality, fun and educational programming during this time when you are unable to visit.

REFUNDS AND REOPENING

If you have purchased tickets for admission or an Aquarium program, our Customer Service Center is here to assist you. We also appreciate all who will donate their admission ticket to support the care of our animals during this time. Please email information@scaquarium.org for assistance.

We will follow the recommendation of authorities and the CDC to determine when we can reopen to the public. Please check our website or Facebook page for current information.  In the meantime, our entire Aquarium team sends our best wishes to you and your loved ones for good health and safety. We look forward to seeing you again!

GROUPS

RESCHEDULE
If your group is scheduled to arrive before June 1st you may reach out via email or phone to reschedule or hold a credit on your account. The admission cost for your group visit will be grandfathered in at the current group rate (a price increase is scheduled for June 1st).  Please contact information@scaquarium.org.

REFUND REQUEST
Should local or state government make a recommendation that aligns with a decision to cancel a planned event and you require a full refund, please send a written request to information@scaquarium.org with the following details:

  • Reservation Number
  • Group/School Name
  • Scheduled Arrival Date
  • Detailed written request with reason for requiring a refund vs. rescheduling or holding credit
  • Supporting documentation for your request such as a link to the government or school district policy or formal letter from the government or school district stating that a cancellation is mandatory

Our committee will review your request and respond with an update within 10 business days of your request (as long as our offices are able to remain open).

MEMBERSHIPS

ACTIVE MEMBERS
All regular annual memberships* with an expiration date of March 16, 2020 or later will be extended by the amount of time that we are closed. Members may choose to opt-out of the extension as a way to support the Aquarium during this difficult time. Please direct any membership questions or requests to opt-out to membership@scaquarium.org. The membership office will be available via email to assist you during the closure. *This does not apply to Conservation Stewards or Watershed Society members.

RENEWALS/UPGRADES
Now, more than ever, renewing your membership is one of the best ways to support the Aquarium’s talented staff, the care for our animals, and the fun and educational programming that will continue to serve you, your family and the community. Please consider renewing or upgrading now and know that your membership will be extended for the amount of time that we are closed due to COVID-19. Please direct any questions to membership@scaquarium.org. The membership office will be available via email to assist you during the closure.
