Clif holds a special distinction: he has been a volunteer at the South Carolina Aquarium since May 19, 2000, the institution’s opening day. His sixteen-year span of dedication to the Aquarium has resulted in more than 3,000 hours volunteered to educate and entertain guests.
Guests, volunteers and employees at the Aquarium all recognize Clif for his remarkable hospitality to every person he meets. “I love meeting people from all over the world,” he says. He has turned an ordinary visit into an unforgettable experience for countless Aquarium visitors with his endlessly positive and welcoming demeanor.
Over his many years of giving his talents, Clif has expected little in return, but on his 80th birthday, he learned just how special he was to his colleagues at the Aquarium. While leading the daily dive show, the divers in the tank surprised him with a sign wishing him a happy birthday, and the entire audience of staff, volunteers and guests sang for him. “I was flabbergasted,” Clif says. “I never imagined that they would go to such measures for me! I felt so special.”
After making so many others feel special, it was only a small gesture of appreciation to an individual who has shaped an exceptional experience for thousands of guests.
