Seven outstanding South Carolina Teachers are being recognized for their dedication to educating the future generation of environmental stewards in our state, and were chosen based on their commitment to STEM education and conservation initiatives within their classrooms and communities. These teachers are receiving The InterTech Group Award for Excellence in STEM Education at the Aquarium’s annual Conservation Gala on May 7th, 2016.
The seven nominated teachers are:
Beth McCarty (Ashley Hall)
Gwendolyn Smith (Daniel Island School)
Rachel Tustin (Dent Middle School, Columbia, SC)
Holly Blair (Sullivan’s Island Elementary)
Jamie Church (Myrtle Beach High School)
Allison Kreutzer (Cape Romain Environmental Charter School)
Sheila Sistare (Joseph G. McCracken Middle School, Spartanburg, SC)
Teachers were nominated by their colleagues, parents, and students. The Aquarium received more than 80 nominations statewide. Five teachers were chosen by a panel of the Aquarium’s Educators and two were designated by the Aquarium’s Board of Directors.
