Think Green in a Pinch: Protect the Planet This St. Patrick’s Day

Your St. Patrick’s Day plans may include wearing green, drinking green or even spending some green. Spread the good luck and good times even further by thinking green with these simple ideas to effortlessly slip some conservation into your celebration!

Shamrock and Roll

Thinking of heading to the beach for some sun and games before the parties commence? No matter where your holiday plans take you, think about the environment as you travel to and from your destination. If you’re staying in the city or at the beach, take a bike or scooter if you’re not going far! If you need to cover some miles, carpooling with a designated driver or splitting a rideshare with your friends is the responsible choice — for both your safety and the planet!

Consider biking or carpooling on holiday getaways.

Clean Up on Aisle: Emerald

While outdoor destinations throughout South Carolina — like Rainbow Row, Columbia Canal and Riverfront Park or the Swamp Rabbit Trail — aren’t exactly the Emerald Isle, if we all participate, we can keep our corner of the world clean and green. It’s as easy as… shepherd’s pie! As you enjoy your day, take note of your surroundings and do a quick check for any litter. Picking up and disposing of even a few pieces of debris really adds up. Pro tip: As you prepare to drop the debris in its proper pot of gold (aka the recycling or trash bin), log what you found in the Litter Journal, a project in the South Carolina Aquarium Citizen Science app. You’ll contribute to critical research that leads to actionable and positive change for the environment!

Keep an eye out for debris on walkways and beaches.
